What a supplier audit checks

ISO 9001 clause 8.4, and the same clause in AS9100 for aerospace, requires organizations to evaluate, select and monitor their external providers and to control the processes, products and services those providers supply. A supplier audit is one of the most direct ways to verify that control.

Areas typically reviewed include the supplier’s quality management system and certifications, how your requirements and drawings flow down, process controls and inspection, calibration of measuring equipment, control of nonconforming product, corrective action, and traceability and records. For aerospace suppliers, counterfeit parts prevention and FOD control are usually added.

When to audit a supplier

  • Before approving a new supplier for critical parts or services
  • When nonconformances, late deliveries or complaints from a supplier increase
  • When your customer or your certification standard requires it
  • As part of a risk-based supplier monitoring program

How a Paradygm supplier audit works

  1. Scope. Agree the customer or ISO-based requirements, the suppliers and the sites to be audited.
  2. Audit. Our auditor reviews the supplier’s processes and records against that scope.
  3. Report. You receive a detailed audit report with findings and feedback.
  4. Follow-up. We track supplier corrective actions through to resolution.
